What is an OCT Scan?
OCT - Optical Coherence Tomography - is a piece of technology that allows our Optometrists to see below the surface of your eye. An OCT scan produces a 3D image that enables us to view the layers that make up the inside of your eye. It gives us a far more detailed picture of the health of your eye.
OCT scans can help detect sight-threatening eye conditions earlier than other traditional methods. This could help indicate the early signs of an eye health condition like glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration before you have any symptoms
How Does it Work?
An OCT scan uses light to take images of the back of your eye, including the optic nerve. The scan creates a layered image that gives us an accurate picture of the back of your eye and its structures. The image is stored on your file for the future so we can note changes to your eyes over time.
The process is quick, painless and non-invasive. There are no known side effects and it is even safe for children.
